How I got here
I didn’t start this work from one seat at one table.
I’ve worked across communications from the ground up, including front-line roles, digital media, strategy, leadership support, and everything in between. That range matters because it shaped how I see organizations, how I understand people’s different realities at work, and how I learned that communication problems are rarely just about words.
Over time, I kept seeing the same thing. Good people were doing their best within busy systems, but the message, the process, or the expectations around it made the work harder than it needed to be. That stayed with me.
Engage + Empower grew out of that. I wanted to build a practice that helps people communicate with more clarity, more care, and more awareness of what real work actually feels like on the receiving end.
What guides me
My work is grounded in the belief that communication is never just about getting information out.
It shapes how people feel, what they understand, what they trust, and whether they know what to do next. It can create steadiness, or it can create more noise. It can help people feel included, seen, and heard, or it can leave them guessing.
That’s why I care so much about clarity, context, and the human side of communication. I’m interested in what helps people make sense of things, not just what looks good on paper.
I bring that lens to every project, whether I’m helping with a presentation, campaign, or a larger communication challenge across a team or organization.
How I work
I lead the work directly and stay closely involved.
That means you’re working with me, not being passed through layers. We look at what’s happening, talk through what’s getting in the way, and focus on what will actually help in your situation.
Every project has its unique needs! Whether it’s a solid strategy, clearer writing, structure, feedback, or even a collaborative partner, I’m here to adapt and provide the right support. I believe in tailoring my approach to fit each situation perfectly.
What I bring is care, pattern recognition, and a practical approach. I pay attention to what people are carrying, what’s realistic, and what will make things easier to use and easier to move forward.

Engage + Empower is my consulting practice, and it reflects how I work.
I’ve spent close to 20 years in communications across corporate, post-secondary, nonprofit, and public sector environments. I’ve worked with leaders, teams, subject matter experts, community partners, and people who never expected communication to become part of their job but ended up carrying it anyway.
That mix of experience has made me practical, flexible, and very aware of how communication lands differently depending on role, pressure, power, and context.
I also bring my lived experience into this work. I’m neurodivergent. I’m a cancer survivor. I’ve moved through systems that were supportive in some moments and hard to navigate in others. That has shaped how I listen, how I ask questions, and how I support people when things are messy, high stakes, or not easy to name.
Outside of work, I’m usually reading, baking, or walking with my chocolate lab, Bear. I’m also a wife and a mom to two sons, who I still sometimes call my spawn, depending on the day.
Because no one shows up to work as a machine. We bring our full lives with us, and communication needs to make room for that.

He takes his role seriously. He supervises the workday, reminds me to step away from the screen, and remains deeply committed to walks, snacks, naps, and good timing.

I work directly with clients and, depending on the project, bring in trusted partners across design, web, accessibility, and facilitation.
That model lets the work stay tailored and responsive without adding layers that don’t need to be there. It also means support can grow when the project needs it, while still keeping the relationship clear and grounded.
